This is one of the most exciting things in my life: when I trade in a full notebook for a fresh and unfamiliar one. I finished my Moleskine sketchbook (save for a few spreads I’m hoarding for an emergency), and I picked up a really nicely bound sketchbook for dirt cheap at Barnes & Noble. The thing lays flat no matter where in the book you are, and its pages are huge, absorbent and yet sturdy. It’ll be a nice art journal, and I’ve tested it with watercolors, acrylics, various inks (distress ink, calligraphy ink, Sharpie ink and India ink) with minimal ghosting. It came in two colors, and I naturally chose black over brown. I doodled this parakeet on the front in white gel pen.

One thing this SKETCHbook does lack is an inside pocket, so I fashioned one out of a Canadian stamp envelope, glue and washi. ❤ Here’s my first page, which is a test of various mediums.

  1. One of my favorite things to do is pick out a New Years journal, which I’m in the process of doing now. I’m in between using one I already have, or getting a new one altogether. I love your art notebooks, you’re a great artist. The parakeet is so lifelike. 🙂

    • 😀 Sounds fucking fun! Since my lined journal is still around half full, I’m trying to convince myself not to use the new year as an excuse, but eghahagjfhd I am failing! XD I’ve been eyeing a Kikki K personal planner for months, and they’re on hella sale right now! o_o There’s this beautiful gold one that matches my Galaxy S5 perfectly. Sigh. Anyways, thanks so much! xD
