While waiting for episode two of Sailor Moon Crystal to come out last Friday, I drew the first Sailor Scout I’ve drawn in years. Sailor Moon apparently released in Japan in 1991, three years before Kurt Cobain’s death. The North American release of Sailor Moon coincided perfectly with my childhood, and I grew up alongside Usagi and the company. Unfortunately, I’m not one of those people who was able to revisit it in adulthood and enjoy it all over again. Sailor Moon Crystal has come to my rescue with beautiful art and a harder storyline that more closely follows the manga. Also Mamoru’s character is so much better in this series: calculated, odd, slightly angsty. I often hated him in the originals.
